Tutorial 19 · Design
Split Connectors
1 min read
What you'll learn
- How to split a large connector into separate boxes ("islands") and merge it back
Prerequisites
- Complete Tutorial 4: Make your First Diagram.
Background
Large connectors with many pins can be hard to fit on one sheet. Splitting a connector lets you draw groups of its pins in separate boxes, placed wherever is convenient. It is still one connector: same part, same BOM line, same harness.
Steps
1Split off pins
Select the connector and expand its pin table under Port Pinouts. Each pin row has island columns: 1 is the main body, then one column per island, then + for a new island. Click + on a row (or drag down the column) to move pins into a new box.

2Rearrange or merge
Check a different column to move a pin to another island, or column 1 to put it back on the main body. Empty islands disappear on their own. Click a column header to name an island (e.g. Power).
On the canvas, each island moves and flips independently. Right-click a port → Highlight entire connector to find all of its pieces.
Summary
Split a connector from the island columns in its pin table; each island is then placed independently on the canvas.
